How Marketing is Like Dating

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve written. I’ve actually been staying pretty busy writing some killer sales copy for my clients.

But the message of today’s email is to talk about how marketing is a lot like dating.

I recently read a great example of the difference between how most business owners market themselves versus how the smart ones go about it.

To continue with the dating analogy, most business owners who are trying to drum up sales will bombard a potential customer’s senses with loud graphics, over the top fonts, teaser copy all over the envelope, and all sorts of other tactics that scream “I’M A PIECE OF ADVERTISING!”

It’s kind of like the equivalent of asking a girl to bed the minute you meet her.

But if you take your time… take her on some dates, talk to her, get to know her – your chances go way up.

And so it is with advertising and marketing. Be a little more subtle.

Let the prospect get to know you. Ease into the relationship and they’ll be handing you their money in no time.
